[edit]

@Upamedhika I only saw your message now, if you just use a "@", I don't get pinged. Well, I would be very tempted to remove Old Iranian and the non-compounded terms, as people can click on the Middle Persian term. But I'll just edit the Classical Persian term and let you decide. I also feel tempted to remove them. Well, I think I should. Meanwhile, I advise you to edit out any (old) transliterations present in some Bengali articles (which use quite redundant letters (ô, f, z)), which are mostly just Arabized/Persianized renditions of Bengali characters usually not pronounced that way (though some are indeed pronounced like that, but we can sort that in the IPA pronounciation part). So, if you find any Bengali article you come across with those letters, kindly remove them (the whole words written). Upamedhika (talk) 12:56, 14 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Upamedhika Well, I don't think I fully understand how the Bengali transcription/transliteration works. Is it meant to reflect spelling or rather pronunciation?
So বদলে should be transliterated as 'bodole'? (but what I'm actually hearing on the sound file is rather /bodle/)
And what should be the transliteration at বেপরোয়া ? Exarchus (talk) 14:30, 14 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Spelling only (except very few cases which I will sort out, and perhaps some administrators/high-level users will fix their spelling displays soon). Pronunciation already is a different section, and the transliteration of both the terms you mentioned should be the unchanged spelling, not pronunciation spelling. @Upamedhika I do think that if পরোয়া is transliterated 'porōẇa', then বেপরোয়া should logically be 'beporōẇa'. Exarchus (talk) 08:49, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
(I thought you were implying that the current transliteration is fine, but maybe that wasn't the case) Exarchus (talk) 09:01, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Current transliterations for some words, especially some Perso-Arabic borrowings, are NOT fine. They contain obsolete letters like ô, f, z or the cluster -sh-. Remove them if you can, and no problem if you can't :) Upamedhika (talk) 09:07, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
