Its etymon[edit]

@Eirikr, I would like to know if Japanese スループ is a borrowing from English sloop or directly loaned from Dutch sloep. If this Japanese word be from Dutch, then it dates back to the Edo period. Otherwise, if from English, then it is a further recent loanword. So could you please find out how old the word is, that its precise etymon may be identified?
