Is Zhuang daxboh (father) related? (@Wyang) —suzukaze (tc) 06:10, 3 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Very interesting question... Probably unlikely, for four reasons:
  1. Zhuang daxboh is a compound word, per Baidu Baike and this Thai article. Specifically, the second link says:
    dax-boh ญาติผู้ใหญ่-พ่อ 'พ่อ'
    i.e. dax-boh senior_relative-father 'father'
    Corroborated by Zhuang dictionaries:
    dax- 对长辈亲属称呼的词头 ~boh 爸爸;父亲 ~meh 妈妈
    boh [方]dez;baz;baq;dax 父亲
The second element is from Proto-Tai *bo:ᴮ ("father").
  2. Min comparison data shows '丈夫' is the main word for 'man' in Min.
  3. Evidence that '丈夫' in Min Nan also means 'male'. This is written as 查埔囡仔 tsa-poo gín-á/ta-poo gín-á in 臺灣閩南語常用詞辭典.
  4. Geography.
Further insight: [2]. Btw, the ping didn't work... Wyang (talk) 07:18, 3 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Wow, thanks for the comprehensive reply! So it's probably just a strange similarity (and the 丈夫 entry might need expansion). —suzukaze (tc) 05:40, 4 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
