Origin of MSM [edit]

"In developing from Middle Chinese to Mandarin, this word escaped from regular sound changes to yield its modern pronunciation of bù, owing to itself belonging to the popular stratum. The expected reading is fǒu,..."

@Wyang I think it would be better to say that the expected reading is fu, from MC 分勿切. Your opinion? Dokurrat (talk) 11:58, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Dokurrat Both fou3 and fu are regular reflexes from MC; the choice of fou3 was more to align with the discussion of the character 否. It may be better to write 'The expected readings are fǒu/fu, ...' Wyang (talk) 12:06, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Wyang: Okay, I shouldn't've asked you. Imma be a b*tch, and to change it anyway. I'll keep the 否 as a comparison. Would you like to review my editing? 🤦‍ Dokurrat (talk) 12:39, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Dokurrat Sure, I made some minor changes. Wyang (talk) 13:36, 15 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
