Pronunciation こんにち → こにち

The pronunciation section for こんにち currently states In faster or more informal speech, the moraic ん is not fully pronounced. @Nardog, you removed this, saying that the difference would be salient. Well, I guess what you mean is it would be different phonologically (/koN.ni.t͡ɕi/ versus /ko.ni.t͡ɕi/). But that isn't evidence that it doesn't happen. @Erutuon: If my experience is anything to go by, it is the third mora that tends to get dropped more frequently in /ko.N.ni.ti(.wa)/, not the second. As you know, /ni.ti/ is a sequence of high vowel moras, so, the vowel in /ni/ is sometimes dropped. The result would be indistinguishable from /ko.N.N.ti/, since the palatalization remains even after the vowel is devoiced. In my book, it is only then that the gemination could be removed. So both [ko.ɲ.ɲi̊.t͡ɕi] and [ko.ɲi̊.t͡ɕi] are possible, but [ko.ɲi.t͡ɕi] (with no gemination or devoicing) would sound unnatural and possibly foreign to Japanese ears. By way of counterpoint, the hits for google:"こにちは" include JA pages targeting JA readers, indicating that the pronunciation without the moraic /ɴ/ exists enough for native speakers / writers to even spell it that way in kana. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │^{Tala við mig} 02:08, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
