hon2 or hon1-2[edit]
@Wyang, Suzukaze-c I don't think this should be hon1-2. The 1-2 tone change is an unlikely tone change. While the tone in MC is 平, it is pronounced with 上 in many dialects of Cantonese, including Taishanese, where it would be a 35 tone for a tone change. - @Justinrleung That is a good point. I was misguided by this and thought it was an irregular generalisation of the tone change rules. The article 《從羅山更改「刊」字讀音看無綫所謂「教育下一代責任」》 shows evidence of 刊 pronounced as hon2 in the early 1800s. Outside of Cantonese, 刊 is also irregularly pronounced in the Jian'ou dialect, making a misreading origin more likely for Cantonese hon2. Wyang (talk) 22:57, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Wyang: I'm actually a little unsure about the Jian'ou dialect. Its current 陰去 tone is a merge of 陽平 and 陰去, so it could have originated from the 陽平 tone (just like Teochew). It'd be good if we could get a hold of a copy of 建州八音 or A Chinese–English Dictionary of the Kien-ning Dialect to make sure, but I haven't been able to find any copies of either online. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 18:26, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Justinrleung According to 黃金文《方言接觸與閩北方言的演變》, the 33 tone is a merger of 陰去, 陽上 and 陽平, and 刊 was 第三調 in 《建州八音》. Wyang (talk) 22:56, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
