Rfv-sense: "be ...-ing; in the middle of doing something (indicating an action in progress)". — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 21:56, 22 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung, @RcAlex36: I trust your judgement as native speakers. Remove if it's incorrect. I must have found an example like
乜嘢 [Cantonese, trad.]
乜嘢 [Cantonese, simp.]
nei5 hai2 zou6 gan2 mat1 je5 aa1? [Jyutping]
What are you doing?
-> when I dabbled in Cantonese back in 2014. It possibly needs some qualifiers, like "combined with" ……緊 or 喺道……緊. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 02:35, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Atitarev: That's ungrammatical to me. It must be 喺度, not just . @RcAlex36, do you agree? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 03:12, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung I agree. RcAlex36 (talk) 03:42, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) @Justinrleung, @RcAlex36: Interestingly enough, https://yue.wiktionary.org/wiki/喺 says "表示動作進行緊,常見於「喺道」" Does it mean that 度/道 are optional and 喺 can be used on its own (by the author of the sense)? They give this as an example sentence: 你喺道做緊乜嘢嗟?Please consider making an entry for 喺道, if it's a valid variant. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 03:50, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Atitarev: I don't know why they decided to put this sense under 喺. The example clearly shows that it should be with 喺度 and they do not provide an example showing the optionality of 度. As for whether the variant with 道 is valid, it seems so based on a Google search, but I'd say 喺度 is probably more common. We need to be wary of Cantonese Wiktionary because they are very prescriptivist in terms of their character choice and use strange variants that they deem to be "etymological" characters but are usually not attested. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 03:59, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
Justinrleung: That's understandable. I typically only used "Teach Yourself Cantonese" and Sheik's dictionary for Cantonese senses. I only mentioned that as "interesting", so that you guys could check further. Vernacular Cantonese writing seems to be available mostly in informal settings, it's hard to check with Google books, anyway. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 04:05, 2 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
