No, it doesn't. I really don't think we should split the entry like this; a pronunciation note would be a better way of handling it. The senses "civilians", "local" are more likely to be used with an unreduced tone, but "Standard Chinese" spoken in much of China's south would use the same pronunciation for the other senses too. We can write "standard in Mainland", "standard in Taiwan", but using tonelessness as a Mainland-Taiwan distinction is too much of a claim. Even Taiwanese Mandarin itself is highly heterogenous - there are those who use erhua and tonelessness much like a Beijinger and may even use more Beijing colloquialisms than a modern Beijinger, as well as those completely lacking these features in their speech. I agree mostly with Wyang. Taiwanese Mandarin is definitely a continuum that can range from 台灣國語 (Táiwān Góyǐ) to 北京話, so saying that one is Mainland and the other is Taiwan is definitely problematic. However, I do think we should probably have two pronunciation sections to make the difference between the two pronunciations more apparent (as it is done with Xiandai Hanyu Cidian, Xiandai Hanyu Guifan Cidian and Cross Straits Dictionary). — justin(r)leung _{{ (t...) | c=› }} 06:46, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

@Wyang, Justinrleung: And, There's currently no non-Mandarin pronunciations in Pronunciation 2, yet there is a Banlamgu zh-x in there... This is contradictional to me. Dokurrat (talk) 06:57, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

This is the reason for my preference for a merger- the distinction is hardly observed in non-Mandarin varieties. Wyang (talk) 07:05, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
