My Japanese entry edit was removed. I have seen the country Cambodia spelled out this way as well in Japan, it's just rare these days, is all. It's also in ateji. Johnnysama (talk) 18:16, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

FWIW, monolingual JA-JA dictionary Daijirin has an entry for カンボジア (kanbojia) that lists both 柬埔寨 and 柬蒲塞 as ateji spellings. The 国名 (kokumei, national name, country name) section of the JA WP article suggests that these may be from the Chinese spellings, more specifically Cantonese. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 19:16, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Should we reinstate my edit for this entry? I think we should, just for completion's sake, IMO. I refer to the 柬埔寨 article. Johnnysama (talk) 19:18, 17 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Shinji referred to Google Books on his talk page, but perhaps the search query is inappropriate: a book that uses the spelling of 柬埔寨 might not simultaneously use the spelling of カンボジア. google books:"柬埔寨へ" looks less mention-y. —Suzukaze-c 00:35, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I restored the entry with a “dated” tag. — TAKASUGI Shinji (talk) 01:17, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
