@Wyang, suzukaze-c This video has some sort of weird 本字. Any truth in it? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 04:01, 30 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

𩟓𩟓. I can't find any references for the word 饏𩟓 cited. The taam5 part of 淡茂茂 is easy to explain from Middle Chinese readings of ; there is no need to resort to . The part is a bit hard to explain. The video uses m-initialed 𩟓, but I can't find any sources corroborating that. It might be related to the mak1 in 鹹嘜嘜咸唛唛.
The expressivity of Cantonese reduplicative adjectives is substrate (Tai) influence, as are some of the reduplicative patterns. Compare e.g. Thai มาก (mâak, very) (Thai มาก ๆ (mâak mâak, very much), 1:40), Thai มิดหมี (mít-mǐi, very) (cf. 淡滅滅淡灭灭), Zhuang maz (very). Wyang (talk) 13:19, 30 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
類篇 is the only source they cited as having "音麥" (or whatever mak6 is supposed to be), but the copy of 類篇 on the MOE Variants Dictionary doesn't have this in there, so I don't think 𩟓 has anything to do with this. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 00:15, 1 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
