Spurious etymology[edit]
There is a widespread notion that 澤普 is a contraction of 澤普勒善. [1], [2], [3], [4]. However, 澤普 is probably actually derived from 澤勒普善. There's a village in Aykol with this naming and the county government website uses 48.htm this name for the Yarkand River. Also, [5]. The word for the village is derived from the Uyghur "زەرەپشان" (zerepshan) as given on the county website [6]. The word for the river is Zarafshān River (Variant - V) (32FA8826418D3774E0440003BA962ED3', https://geonames.nga.mil/namesgaz/gnsquicksearch.asp). Despite these strong suspicions, I don't have a good source to prove this name as the real name at this time, so I leave this note here for later. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 19:24, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
