Philippines as well?[edit]

@Mar vin kaiser Is sense #2 the common definition in the Philippines as well? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:49, 9 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung In the Philippines, most native Chinese are from the Min Nan region. A very small percentage is Cantonese-speaking. Therefore, this, based on experience, is not a phrase used in daily conversation, as there is not much need to differentiate between Hokkien people and Cantonese people. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:52, 9 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: I see. Does that mean that there are even less people from other parts of Fujian (e.g. Fuzhou) that need to be differentiated from? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 13:56, 9 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: There is no substantial community in the Philippines of people from other parts of Fujian. Although, I just remembered that I've experienced talking to non-Hokkien Mainlanders in the Philippines (of which there is a small minority) using the word 福建人 to call the native Hokkien population. But then again, because people know that the language is called 福建話, people here generally think all people in Fujian speak the same 福建話. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 21:54, 9 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
