Japanese 脳細胞 (nō saibō). Straightforward SOP: (, brain) + 細胞 (saibō, cell). ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 16:27, 23 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

So is brain cell itself SOP? —Mahāgaja · talk 18:01, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm uncertain how it wouldn't be?
Curious if we have entries for skin cell, muscle cell, hair cell, bone cell, nerve cell, breast cell, eye cell, fat cell, blood cell, gland cell, fetal cell, spinal cell, liver cell, stomach cell, heart cell, tonsil cell...
Of those listed above that we do have, the definition for hair cell is definitely non-SOP. I might be convinced of non-SOP-ness for blood cell, while fat cell seems more borderline. And nerve cell strikes me as SOP.
Notably though, we don't seem to have any other entries for "[ORGAN] cell". ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 19:01, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Comment. For what it is worth, I think that in colloquial use the term brain cell refers solely to the neurons in the brain and excludes the glial cells. The Dutch and German Wiktionaries define the corresponding literal translations as being confined to nerve cells. Also, on the English Wikipedia Brain cell redirects to Neuron. Likewise, on the Japanese Wikipedia 脳細胞 redirects to 神経細胞.  --Lambiam 08:07, 26 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Colloquially, I'm not sure most speakers are savvy enough on cerebral cellular types to make that distinction... ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 19:28, 28 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Here is a colloquial use of “brain cell” in an essay by someone who surely is educated enough to make the distinction but obviously uses the term as a synonym of “neuron” – the “brain cells” being discussed are not even located in the brain.  --Lambiam 20:32, 31 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
