Meixian ngê4[edit]

@H2NCH2COOH Hi, what is the source of the reading ngê4 that you added in this edit? RcAlex36 (talk) 17:00, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Very common pronunciation used exclusively to represent "mugwort". ngê4 can be found in Syndict and attested by its cognation with other Hakka dialects in Taiwan. nê4 is an alternative pronunciation of ngê4 and is recorded in 客家话词典 by 张维耿. H2NCH2COOH (Talk) 03:03, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@H2NCH2COOH: I've checked multiple sources on downtown Meixian (梅縣方言詞典, 客家话词典普通话对照, 汉语方音字汇, 广东省志‧方言志) and they all only have the nê4 reading, not the ngê4 reading. I wonder if the ngê4 reading is something that is "preserved" in areas outside of the downtown Meixian. If so, I'm not sure if it would be misleading to include the ngê4 reading because we generally only include downtown Meixian in the pronunciation template. I think Syndict is often prone to error (not sure where their sources are). — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 14:22, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
