Hokkien[edit]

菲律賓咱人話(Lán-lâng-uē)研究 (p247): IPA(key): /taŋ13 s51/ invalid IPA characters (1351). -- 04:44, 24 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

@沈澄心: If I recall correctly, @Mar vin kaiser has said that this study is kind of unreliable for pronunciations. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:48, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Well, in this case it's right lol. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 05:51, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: so the vowel should be -ir? I thought it would be -i. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 06:26, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Oh, sorry, in the IPA above, I only see a box where "ir" would be. :) I guess, you may hear "-ir" from some of the new immigrants, but I don't think the people who have been in Manila for generations would say "-ir". In fact, I would say "-u" is more common than "-ir". But in my opinion, "-i" is more common here. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 07:14, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: Thanks for clarifying! We should definitely just be recording what people who have been in Manila for generations would say rather than more recent immigrants. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 07:19, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
