@懒得起:: I am native to Wuchuan, Zhanjiang. Many of the yue dialect/Cantonese (include my native tongue) in Zhanjiang called pineapple as "麻子" or "菠萝麻子" （Note that: 菠萝麻子 can be also a swearing word in Min dialect in Zhanjiang）. Unfortunately, my limited ability could not find an academic article about this. However, I can show you some Chinese internet sources (published by normal netizens) about it.

- @懒得起: Thanks, it's hard to verify dialectal words in published sources, so these should be just fine. Just to confirm, you speak 吴川白话? The above shows it's used in 湛江, but how do you know it's also used in 廉江? — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 00:09, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
@Justinrleung: Because I've Been to 廉江 and not only the Yue dialect/Cantonese in 廉江 called pineapple as "麻子"； the 亻厓（one character）话 in 廉江 also called pineapple as "麻子".
