@Fish bowl I'm not really sure about the exact etymology for 夜叉 but I suppose that it could be from the result of an /i/ umlaut from '야차', perhaps via 야차+이? (as mentioned on the page). A similar example would be how in some areas of Jeolla and Korea as a whole, '감자' becomes '감재', or in some areas of eastern Korea, '남자' becomes '남재'. Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with the Jeolla dialect so I apologise for not being able to help more. Kaepoong (talk) 04:57, 15 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
