@माधवपंडित Hello! Can you make the entry for स्वशुर (svaśura) and find its attestation too if possible. Some anon keeps putting the * back in. DerekWinters (talk) 15:04, 13 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@DerekWinters: Ah, I had looked into this issue of श्वशुर/स्वशुर a while back and would like nothing more than to make that entry. However the CFI and attestations are a bit of a problem. I had erroneously said "Monier Williams lists this word" while in fact he doesn't. It appears Vaman Shivram Apte's dictionary. Monier Williams states that śvaśura may be from an earlier svaśura, but neither Monier not Apte give any attestations. As seen here, "svaśura" has no hits. However, I guess the entry can still be made since it's listed in a dictionary. @AryamanA, what do you think?? -- माधवपंडित (talk) 01:54, 15 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@माधवपंडित: Honestly, I don't think having a स्वशुर entry is really useful, as a reconstruction or a mainspace entry. And the attestation seems scant, even for Sanskrit. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 20:31, 15 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Word[edit]

@AryamanA Hey, the autotranslit gives gandhari, I think this might be a typo. DerekWinters (talk) 20:49, 15 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@DerekWinters: lol, it really does say gandhari, what a strange typo. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 21:33, 15 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
LOL! I remember I had not actually typed in this word (like I did for other lemmas) but had copied the word from the PanLex.org database but mistakenly copied the word on the left which was the name of the language in its native script. -- Bhagadatta (talk) 01:25, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Bhagadatta At least we never made it word of the day. On a separate note, how similar is Gandhari (and the Northwest Ashokan Prakrits) to Dardic? I'm definitely noticing some parallels (especially with this word). DerekWinters (talk) 06:30, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@DerekWinters: Yeah, vocab-wise this language displays similar sound changes from OIA as does Dardic. I'm pretty sure Gandhari was closely related to Proto Dardic, if not descended from it. -- Bhagadatta (talk) 07:44, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Bhagadatta, DerekWinters: Gandhari also has a lot of parallels with Northwest Ashokan Prakrit (which was also written in Kharoshthi). Definitely some kind of connection here that can't only be explained by areal influence. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 02:32, 17 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
