I have some doubt about whether -ník really is a suffix. Nonetheless, sources (Naše řeč) indicate as much. An alternative analysis would be that -ník is -ík attached to adjectival -ní, and that the resulting double í gets merged as part of the attachment. Thus, trávník is either tráva + -ník or tráva + -ní + -ík. Even if the latter is the case, -ník could be seen as a compound suffix, and furthermore, the adjective from tráva is travní with non-acute a, whereas trávník has acute a. Working with -ník in etymologies as a suffix seems acceptable. --Dan Polansky (talk) 10:44, 16 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
