czworo?[edit]
I think the -oro ending might be a back-formation from czworo, which was originally czwór- + -o, but then reinterpreted as czw- + oro. The original -o might be a variant of -e occurring after a hard consonant.
Without these back-formations, these words might have sounded like this:
5: piącie? pięcie? piąto? pięto?
6: szóście? szósto?
7: siódmo? siódme? siódmie?
8: ósmo? ósmie? óśmie?
9: dziewiącie? dziewięcie? dziewiąto? dziewięto?
10: dziesiącie? dziesięcie? dziesiąto? dziesięto?
I think these words might be replaced by the newer -oro numerals because the original ones might be hard to pronounce in the genitive case: piętga, szostga, siodmga, osmga, dziewiętga, dziesiętga
