I believe I may have coined this term myself. I would like to make a reference to the original posting of it on a video made by someone who called himself Houtakiboy on YouTube, but that person, an Irish man named Darren Hughes removed his channel before 2015. It was around 2012 that I regularly commented on ASMR videos on YouTube and at one point I asked what one would call a person who makes the videos. I offered the term ASMR-tist and got some positive feedback on the post. Later I began to refer to the video makers as ASMRtists in comments on YouTube videos. I'm sure someone else could have come up with the same term, but I'm quite confident that I had not seen the word used before I proposed it on that comment. I really wish there were an archived copy of that video and it's posting because that would have been a rather conclusive reference to the first use of the term. I've seen a bunch of articles on news and newspaper websites using the term lately so I felt like looking around to see if anyone asked where it might have come from and so far I don't see anyone asking. I figured I'd just leave a comment here because I guess there is a possibility that some day I will be able to play the word and Scabble AND be able to say, "I made that word up!" Ah, but words that start with a capital aren't allowed in Scrabble! - Unfortunately, even if you happen to know the video URL, I doubt it would help: the Wayback Machine does cache parts of YouTube, but the comment sections are based on overcomplex JavaScript code and thus won't work when cached. I wouldn't be surprised if several people came up with the same "ASMRtist" pun at around the same time. Equinox 17:41, 27 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
