SOP ? Leasnam (talk) 20:47, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Erm, for one, I've just started the definition page and two, why don't you contribute instead? After all, there is significant media coverage with usage of the term 'Apple fanboy'. CrayonS (talk) 20:50, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I get it, it exists, but you could have any X fanboy (AT&T fanboy, Microsoft fanboy, etc.) where would it end ? Leasnam (talk) 20:52, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Speedy delete. Per utramque cavernam 20:56, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I would call it SOP, yes. Welcome to Wiktionary, CrayonS, but we have a fairly extensive policy to not add multi-word terms that have no idiomatic meaning, so called "sum-of-parts" or "SOP". "Apple fanboy" would (at least to me) be SOP, because you can replace "Apple" with the name of another technology company. It's similar to how dictionaries do not include phrases like "red door", because you could also have a "blue door", unless "red door" has some understood meaning beyond a door that is red. Thank you but it's used a lot in media coverage. Shall we have a RfD on every two-word term? Sorry for my language but...... why is the word cocksucker around then if it can be replaced with dicksucker? Bieberism perhaps? What about many others? CrayonS (talk) 20:59, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Many two-word terms here exists for various reasons which are described in more detail on these pages: WT:EL and WT:IDIOM. Some of them are idiomatic, some are precise technical terms, the existence of some relies on them being found on some other reliable dictionary as well and so on. Unless "Apple fanboy" can be shown to fulfill one of these conditions, it should not be an entry. As for "cocksucker", it is one word rather than two, since there is no space in the term itself. (Sufficient attestation for a one-word version of a two-word entry also counts as a criterion for including the two word term, per WT:COALMINE). SURJECTION ·talk·contr·log· 21:03, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Bah, WT:CFI, not WT:EL. I still keep mixing those two up at times. SURJECTION ·talk·contr·log· 21:04, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Well, if it's such a worry to you, then you would really contribute to it. As for WT:EL, entry layout does not matter at first when you've just created something. CrayonS (talk) 21:07, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Linking WT:EL was just a mistake from my side because I for whatever reason keep confusing it with the page I actually meant: WT:CFI. SURJECTION ·talk·contr·log· 21:09, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I believe it may well fit WT:CFI. Can it be that please? Please help me with it instead of opposing again it? After all, this website is part of the Wikis! As forApple fanboy, it can work well I guess. <3 I have to go. Sorry. Bye. CrayonS (talk) 21:11, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I already described why it doesn't: it's a multi-word term that has no idiomatic meaning, and therefore counts as sum-of-parts, which qualifies it for deletion. SURJECTION ·talk·contr·log· 21:11, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Nicely explained. @CrayonS: it's certainly nothing personal, the entry was not defective in any way and I appreciated the citations, and you are certainly welcome to add other words, just make sure that they are in line with Wiktionary guidelines :) Leasnam (talk) 21:59, 22 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Speedied. Non-starter. I would encourage the creator to learn about our policies. Equinox 11:30, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Well, can you give me a few links to the policies please? Thank you! I came here from Wikipedia (I was banned there). CrayonS (talk) 12:02, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

These have already been provided above; please reread Surjection's messages. Per utramque cavernam 12:08, 23 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
