Offensiveness[edit]
I am not an East Asian woman, so I find it hard to judge offensiveness here. However, I imagine this term could be 'offensive' (I would think of it as impolite or uncivil) because it is seems like it could be a race-based judgment on a person's likely life story (racial stereotype), which would make it something very crude. I had heard this term from a widow, white, of many decades then over ninety (b. 1920s). It's unclear to me if she personally would have thought of the term as racist. I bet she wouldn't have. She might have assumed it was just a cute term related to an East Asian woman. But, in context, it did seem to carry a hint of negativity or disapproval about East Asian women, which I had never experienced before. Hence I judged the usage impolite and barbarous in the moment, but that may be because of my unfamiliarity with the context for her usage. However, combining this with the Wikipedia commentary, I think this may be an offensive term at least sometimes to some percentage of East Asian women; I would love to see an East Asian women comment on this question. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 05:24, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
