@Lambiam Hey, where did you find the etymology for this? I'm getting mixed reports from Google. The recent edits by Leornendeealdenglisc also seems to conflict w/ the idea that it's related to werdan. — Mnemosientje (t · c) 10:28, 3 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

The Etymologisch woordenboek van het Nederlands S–Z (Vol. 4) (Philippa et al., 2009), under tegenwoordig, derives the middle component from Proto-Germanic *werþ-, said to be also the source of Dutch worden, and gives German gegenwärtig as a cognate.  --Lambiam 15:17, 3 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
