Is the Spanish pronunciation right? I thought Spaniards pronunced final 'd' as the 'th' (as in "that") or dropped it altogether, making the IPA more like /maˈdri(ð)/. Or is this a regional variation only? — Paul G 10:06, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

It's technically correct to symbolize both signs as /d/ as the lenition to [ð] is automatic based on surrounding sounds. (Spanish SAMPA explicitly equates d and D.) When I put the pronunciation in I used /d/ for both because I couldn't remember what the lenition rules were (and my half-native Spanish pronunciation is too atrocious to be relied upon—my instinct actually says /maˈðrid/, which I'm almost sure is nonstandard). —Muke Tever 02:03, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
