Etymology[edit]

Cp. putty, further puzzle (if orig. 'mosaic'), maybe see similar patina, further padding, pudding, puddle (Pfütze).

Being a Baustoff, it can be derived straight from the root of Bau, but what suffix, same as Schmutz?

On an unrelated note, I had thought of a wonderful idea for Mumpe, which seems to be a regional synonym or metonym if it meant the prepared mix, but I didn't write it down. On the face of it, I find mud close enough, as in (childish) Modder-Pampe (cp. Pampa). ApisAzuli (talk) 12:17, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
