English-speaking people use Tokaj or Tokaj wine pronounced /təˈkæ(d)ʒ/ when referring to Tokaji Aszú also known as tokay or tokaji. How should it be written in the entry? Ferike333 19:52, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

tokay is the usual spelling. I have only heard it pronounce /toʊˈkej/ in English (like bouquet), no matter how it is spelled. If someone said /təˈkæ(d)ʒ/, I think that people who are familiar with this wine would burst into laughter. I can imagine a young, inexperienced American saying /təˈkæ(d)ʒ/, but I don’t think it is an accepted pronunciation. —Stephen 03:56, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

I think the user intended the final "j" to be pronounced as a "y," as in the Germanic languages, or Esperanto. 24.29.228.33 06:04, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thanks you, Stephen. I was wondering, too, /təˈkæ(d)ʒ/ hurt my ears. I didn't even undestand it in the movie, so I had to see the subtitles, but you're right, I finally burst into laughter haha. He was neither young, nor inexperienced nor American, it was Jason Statham. I alway experience something strange in films...

I don't know which user you are talking about:) I am aware of what I wrote, as is Stephen, that's for sure. Both pronunciation is what the normal English pronunciation would be. The only problem with Tokaj is what you can see above. It sounds terrible to an American as well as to Hungarians. Ferike333 10:37, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
