@Metaknowledge It is indeed a regional variant/cognate of wijven, from the eastern dialects/Low Saxon (where ij is often pronounced as /i/ or /i:/). I'm not certain about what the etymology should be in detail, though. Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 09:27, 1 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
