Is this really singular in New Zealand? In Australia it's unusual in that it's plural in form but acts singular as in "I stayed at a backpackers last night". It's largely colloquial though so whether it's actually plural or possessive I'm not sure. People write it both ways, but people have a lot of problems with when to use an apostrophe and when not to.

Either way it's obviously come from shortening the phrase "backpacker's hostel" or "backpackers' hostel" or "backpackers hostel" (-: — hippietrail (talk) 14:13, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

In fact there is actually this sense at backpackers, including NZ quotes. Should these all be listed as "Alternative forms" or "See also" or "Synonyms" etc? — hippietrail (talk) 14:20, 2 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you're right. I've taken this sense out. I've added {{trans-see}} to backpackers. BTW, no need to add {{trreq}} to all synonyms, consider using {{trans-see}} instead and merge translations. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 23:12, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
