Origin of banyak[edit]

I would like to propose that banyak is a loan word from Dutch/Low German dialects "bannig" (from "mannig") meaning "many". "Bannig" still exists in Low German. Indonesia was a Dutch colony for many years. The word changed into "baie" when it made its way nto the Afrikaans language at the Cape (South Africa), which was also ruled by die Dutch.
