I don’t believe the latter pronunciation is ever correctly used for the adjective, although some dictionaries do show it. — Wulf (talk) 20:04, 29 January 2020 (UTC)

On the contrary, the adjective takes either pronunciation, while the verb is /blɛst/ alone.

My Routledge has /ˈblɛsəd/ as the adjective's primary American pronunciation, and /ˈblɛsᵻd/ as the secondary British pronunciation.

You may be able to hear the two syllables when you read "this blessed event" or "blessed be", rather than "be blessed". The two-syllable pronunciation has always sounded more formal, archaic, or ecclesiastical to me. — RVJ (talk) 16:21, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
