Some derived terms[edit]

Some words for illegal traders in various specific commodities, which are either blends with this words or uses of a suffix -legger extracted from it, include booklegger, coallegger, ducklegger, foodlegger, gaslegger or gas legger, meatlegger, tirelegger, and votelegger; most are mentioned as being used in the 1940s or later but are not attested in use in any surviving, digitized works that I've seen, with the exception of the attested foodlegger. See Henry Louis Mencken, The American Language: An Inquiry Into the Development of English in the United States and R. M. W. Dixon, Making New Words: Morphological Derivation in English. - -sche (discuss) 02:40, 26 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
