Fire department brownouts[edit]

Fire department brownouts have occurred in multiple cities across the US over the past several years. Newspapers in affected cities of course discuss the matter. The NYT discussed the phenomenon here. Choor monster (talk) 14:37, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Computer authentication system brownouts[edit]

To ensure all affected customers are aware of the authentication change, during two scheduled brownouts, we will temporarily disable support for password authentication, and Git operations made using a password will temporarily fail.Suzukaze-c (talk) 11:13, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Electricity supply brownouts — brevity[edit]

Colloquially we use the term brownout to refer to a brief loss (or partial loss) of mains electricity. Thus, if there is a total power cut lasting for only a few seconds, we would call it a brownout. But we would also call a partial power reduction resulting in, e.g., dimming of lights for a few seconds a brownout.

We do not tend to encounter (or do not notice) extended periods of substantially reduced voltage, which is apparently what the industrial definition is.
