Etymology[edit]

This looks like yet another candidate to be ultimately from Latin caput (head). It really ought to be via another Romance language, such as Spanish, Occitan, Catalan, Galician (etc.) as Latin -ap often becomes -ab in these languages, such as caber from Latin capere. My gut feeling is that it's an Occitan diminutive of caput, and that's for all three languages. Mglovesfun (talk) 22:40, 29 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
