Etymology[edit]

Word "chojrak" has its origin in Warsaw dialect. The etymology of this word is not known, only Bańkowski includes it in his dictionary, but he's not sure if it is real origin. Beside only two words "from chojra" he has wrote a question mark "from chojra (?)" and to present day no other linguist think the etymology from "chojra" (which is really rear interjection with no close meaning to daredevil) is valid. There is an article from 2015, which tries to find the etymology of the word "chojrak" and gives more reliable origin from Russian, where almost similar word (only with metathesis - chorjak) means "hog, boar", which can be related to someone, who is brave but with risky behavior.

I think the second etymology, from 2015, is more probable. Here is the name of the article: Rafał Rosół, O historii i etymologii rzeczownika chojrak, „Linguistica Copernicana” It can be found in PDF format online. 2A02:A31A:A238:A180:90D1:8345:270C:7A25 11:58, 3 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
