Geology definition[edit]

I've traced the quote in the original book: Other marine geotechnique hazards include gassy sediments, turbidity currents, permafrost, and diaperism (in which the overlying sediments force the lower sediments upward through the upper layers).

Despite seeing it in print, I suspect this is a mistake for diapirism, which has a similar, and perhaps in fact synonymous, definition. This book may not have been copy-edited; I think I even see another mistake in the same sentence.

How do we handle situations like this? Should I delete the 1st definition just because I think I'm right? Soap (talk) 15:24, 9 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

As usual I decided to just go ahead and remove it, but I also want to note I did some more searching on Google Books and it seems that the other mentions of the word have a sense identical with diapirism, not merely similar. A lot of mention of "salt diaperism" for example. There are also a few hits for phrases like "granite diapers" that are not OCR errors. Sometimes people make mistakes, and it is easy for me to imagine the authors of these books mistakenly substituting a familiar word for an exotic one. Soap (talk) 17:22, 9 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
