Dutch dijk (“id.”)[edit]

The list of cognates includes the Dutch word dijk with the translation "id.". This seems like an editing error: If "id." means idem (= the same), then it is only correct without quotation marks, and since the template in use here adds quotation marks automatically, the translation should probably be replaced by the actual meaning ("dam"). --95.223.44.193 22:25, 21 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

I replaced it, but not because it was an error. Using "id." to replace a single 3-letter word in a list doesn't save anyone any significant effort, and it makes the etymology harder to parse. It's just not worth it. Chuck Entz (talk) 00:18, 22 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
