I agree. In fact, all three are probably of the same origin. With materials you often get a neuter word for the material, usually uncountable next to a masculine countable one for a particular object made of it. Het smaragd (mineral) vs. de smaragd (a particular emerald). I don't think that that implies a different etym. Jcwf 03:12, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
