Talk:fennec fox

I can find no authority in any dictionary or encyclopedia (except Wikipedia which I am also saying this on) for the phrase "fennec fox" with the first word being either attributive or adjectival. All English dictionaries (and I have more than 20 here including Chambers, Collins, Oxford, Merriam-Webster, American Heritage, Macquarie (Australian English) and many others) and Britannica give only the simple noun fennec as the name of this species of animal. Maybe it's a bit like Persian cat, where the word 'cat' is added for people who don't know what a Persian is, but is nevertheless redundant. Mglovesfun (talk) 20:39, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
