Adverb sense 2:

Straight away, very soon.

The example given, "It twisted and turned, and, the first thing I knew, made a sudden bend around ...", is not an adverbial use of "first thing" as far as I can see. Is there any valid adverbial sense here that is different from sense 1? Mihia (talk) 02:14, 10 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'll get to it first thing. Kiwima (talk) 04:30, 10 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Do you mean that, to you, "I'll get to it first thing" can mean "I'll get to it straight away"? To me, it means "I'll get to it early in the morning". Mihia (talk) 03:54, 15 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Yes, it can mean "I'll get to it straight away". And I did -- I added some quotes to the entry. Kiwima (talk) 02:24, 22 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
In my dialect/idiolect, only "I'll get to it first thing tomorrow (or 'in the morning')" implies that it's early in the morning. Andrew Sheedy (talk) 02:31, 22 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
OK, fair enough. I deleted the "rfv" label. Mihia (talk) 02:51, 23 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
