It seems to me we need some more subsections like "Connotation - pejorative towards the thing or things removed", and/or "XXXX - informal". i'm not sure what XXXX is formally called - i'm referring to the general level of formality - maybe "Register"??? It seems to me that "got rid of" can be used over coffee or a beer or casual conversation but not in a serious written text. Any thoughts? (i'm still very much a newbie on the wiktionary.) It can be used without "of", just not often, such as "I decided to get rid". Mglovesfun (talk) 17:30, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
@Mglovesfun: It's ambiguous because their past and past participle is rid. But the right meaning is its adjectival one:
