@Mlgc1998 Could you please explain how the Tagalog word "gilit" appears in the old 18th-19th century dictionaries like Vocabulario, yet somehow is derived from an American company's name that started in 1901? Sorry for sounding rhetorical, but I just felt that simple research could show that this etymology is obviously false. Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:12, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Mlgc1998: For the Cebuano one, it's possible, since I couldn't find it anywhere in old Cebuano dictionaries. Though the sound change is weird, from /dj/ to /g/. Maybe they read it from the packaging. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:20, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
