Hello, in french[edit]

we now use mainly

  • 1/for somebody who has a sweet tooth : gourmand
  • 2/for somebody who appreciates fine food: gourmet , and gastronome (there may be a thousand restaurants called "Au rendez-vous des gastronomes" througout France). In slang : fine gueule.
  • 3/for somebody who is a glutton : glouton , goulu, goinfre. Boulimique is now very frequently used too. In slang : bâfreur (though we find it in Rabelais...). BTW : for those who’d like to (re)read some pages in magnificent french about gluttonry, please go to Gustave Flaubert’s Trois contes , §III of Hérodias (about the feast offered by Herode Antipas to young Aulus Vitellus)


And in spanish

  • 1/ goloso
  • 2/ gastrónomo, sibarita
  • 3/ glotón, comilón, tragón. The equivalent of our bâfreur would be tragaldabas (one who’d swallow knockers), along with the expression poder comer un estribo de cobre: "to be able to eat a copper stirrup" (found in La mala hora by Gabriel García Márquez ).
