Estonian and Finnish pronunciation[edit]

I have read that in Estonian, if r, l, n, m, a long vowel or a diphthong is followed by a single k, p or t then the plosive is pronounced overlong, so there are only two meaningful consonant lengths in these situations (a short plosive would be spelled b, d or g). Is the word "jalka" really pronounced [ˈjɑlkɑ] as if it were spelled <jalga> or is [ˈjɑlk̚ːkɑ] the correct pronunciation?

Also, I noticed that the Finnish audio file says *[ˈcɑlkɑ], or at least it sounds like that to me. [ˈjɑlkɑ] is the correct Finnish pronunciation thouch. Finnish doesn't have a [c] sound. 91.154.122.198 22:13, 20 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
