Talk:kamikaze

The etymology in this article is too simplistic. The English word uses a different reading than used in Japan. Japanese characters have more than one pronunciation or "reading". The reading "kamikaze" referred to a typhoon which saved Japan from Mongol invaders in the 13th century. The reading "shinpū" is used in Japan for the suicide attack pilots of WWII.

So far I haven't found an answer as to why the wrong reading became the common English word. I'm trying to discuss the topic in Talk:神風 and w:Talk:Kamikaze. — Hippietrail 13:29, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
