WHY is it called Kelly Green? What's the history behind it?

Ava Gardner plays in the 1953 movie Mogambo with Clark Gable. Her character is Kelly and in one of the opening scenes she is wearing a striking "kelly" green shirt. Perhaps this is where it comes from.

Sorry, but that can't be the origin, since the term was already in use before the release of that film. --EncycloPetey 01:54, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
