A bit SoPpy[edit]
especially since we don't really give any kind of definition. The real explanation is that of the lad. Equinox ◑ 07:54, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hey, we don't have that definition either. What is a lad? I suppose it was some annoying aggressive dude who listened to Oasis in Tony Blair's times. Hurrah! Equinox ◑ 07:55, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- The UK equivalent of a fratboy or a bro, in my understanding. That's a shade of meaning that can't really be gathered from lad + culture alone, so I wouldn't consider this SoP. -Cloudcuckoolander (talk) 08:10, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- Agree those are similar: it's a sort of macho thing. So here it means watching football (soccer) and being misogynistic, whereas there it might mean watching baseball and being misogynistic. Ha! I disagree on the shade, because I think any subculture can be an "X culture" (Goth culture? emo culture? survivalist culture?) though honestly I find it hard to find other phrases with "lad" in them. Nobody ever chased the "lad vote", as horrible as I can imagine one. OK not gonna pick on this entry. Equinox ◑ 08:17, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- I agree that the vast majority of "X culture" phrases are transparent. "Goth culture" is evidently the culture of goths, "geek culture" is the culture of geeks, etc. But I think this is more equivalent to "rape culture." The full nuance of meaning isn't readily discernible from looking up the constituent parts. -Cloudcuckoolander (talk) 08:43, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
