Isn't this an archaic word? I never use the world "lighted", I use "lit". "It was cold, so I lit the fire" instead of "It was cold, so I lighted up the fire."

Using lighted just seems weird - although on the article for "lit" it says "simple past tense and past participle of light".

That could a regionalism of use. It's fairly common in my experienced to hear "lighted", especially in sentences like "They lighted the Christmas tree", where lights are being turned on, rather than someone setting fire to the tree. --EncycloPetey 00:34, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
It's also more common to say that "The stars lighted our way." than to say "The stars lit our way." --EncycloPetey 00:57, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
