My understanding of this word is that it is a combination of 'may' and 'happen'. 'Mayhap' is an archaic English word but 'Mayhaps' is incorrect. — This unsigned comment was added by Dallian (talk • contribs) at 00:48-00:51, 4 November 2006.

Surely this word refers to the future, so isn't the example usage incorrect?

No, it is not constrained to the future. It can refer just as well to the present or the past. —Stephen 09:26, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
