Im not sure. The American quotes only use n't in contexts where we would today write the word bunched together, so it might be just a typographical variant. The British example uses will n't, which suggests a modern form willn't .... but this has an awkward consonant cluster and we don't have a pronunciation listed for it either. There may have been two or more pronunciations spread across different dialects. Soap 20:07, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
